Throughout his career, John Folkestad has been passionate about entrepreneurship, creating extraordinary workplace cultures, and helping others succeed. Back in 2002, those passions led him to co-found Salo with Amy Langer, and they still drive him today.
John currently focused on helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses through mentoring, advisory services, and investing. He is actively involved with YPO Twin Cities and YPO Heartland—organizations that provide education and networking for business leaders.
At Salo, John is known for his visionary ideas, uncanny ability to connect people, and his penchant for office fun. John and Salo have been recognized with a wide range of honors, including being named to the Inc. 500 and Inc. 5000 lists. They were also awarded Finance and Commerce’s Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s “Fast 50,” “Healthiest Employer,” and are six-time recipients of “Best Places to Work,” along with Minnesota Business Magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For.” John was part of the 2005 “Forty Under 40” class of emerging business leaders recognized annually by The Business Journal.
John is a lifelong learner. He has participated in educational programs for international entrepreneurs such as MIT’s Birthing of Giants program and the Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management (OPM) program.
John and his wife, Sheila, live in Edina, Minnesota. In addition to his work with YPO, John and his family support the Cristo Rey High School in Minneapolis. John is a graduate of St. Cloud State University and a “recovering CPA” (inactive certificate).
